My therapeutic stance:

  • Collaborative

Therapy is a dynamic process, in which therapist and client each bring important contributions. I can offer skills, knowledge, and perspective to improve psychological wellbeing; and you are the expert on yourself, including your own experiences, challenges, and priorities. We will work together to co-create our treatment plan, and we will check in regularly about what is and isn’t helpful so that we can ensure the process of therapy is worthwhile.

  • Culturally Humble

I am personally and professionally committed to anti-oppressive practices. This means that I acknowledge harmful systems of privilege and oppression, honor differences in our identities, affirm your lived experiences, and engage in regular training and reflection to reduce the risk of bias and harm in the therapy space. Groups are not monoliths, so I do my best to balance learning from each individual client while also maintaining responsibility for my own understanding of different groups and cultures.

  • Doing What Works

My clinical approach is both science-informed and flexible. We will decide together on the right balance of session structure, skill-building, and processing. I tend to focus on mindfulness, values, and self-compassion as avenues for increasing emotional resilience, intentional action, and meaningful living. We may review new skills in these areas so that you can respond effectively when difficult thoughts, emotions, and situations show up.

 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Once you’ve reached out to me, I usually suggest that we schedule a phone consultation as a first step. The initial consultation is a 15-20 minute phone call, free of charge, where we can briefly discuss your goals and questions, and I can tell you a little bit more about my approach. From there, you can decide whether you’d like to schedule a first session with me.

  • The first one to two meetings will focus on us getting to know one another, helping us to decide whether we’ll be a good fit to work together. We co-create the treatment plan: we’ll talk about the concerns that are bringing you in and about the therapy approach(es) that may help. I will check in with you at each session to review what’s gone well, what’s been challenging, and what would be most helpful to focus on as we move forward.

Your feedback is so important to the process of therapy. I will do my best to create safety and trust so that you can let me know if you feel that something isn’t working, or if you’d like to change something about the treatment approach.

  • I'm mainly offering virtual appointments at this time, which take place by video call through my confidential practice software, Simple Practice. We are able to meet for virtual appointments as long as you are located in a PSYPACT-participating state during our meeting.

Please visit the following site for a current list of PSYPACT-participating states: https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap

  • I offer 50-minute, weekly individual therapy sessions at $225 per session (this also includes the first session). We have the option to meet less often as we transition toward the end of our work.

I ask clients to let me know at least 2 days (48 hours) in advance if they will need to cancel an appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be charged at the full fee rate, and insurance or HSA/FSA may not be applied to this charge. All clients receive one “freebie” per calendar year to waive one late cancellation/missed appointment fee, and we may discuss possible exceptions for emergencies, financial hardship, or other unforeseen circumstances.

  • I'm an Out-of-Network (OON) provider, which means that I don’t directly work with any insurance plans. However, I provide clients with a monthly document (a "superbill") that they can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. Clients may also use HSA/FSA benefits to pay for services. (Please note that insurance or HSA/FSA benefits may not be applied to late cancellation/missed session fees.)

If you want to use your insurance to cover the costs of therapy, I recommend calling your insurance provider and asking about out-of-network mental health coverage. It may be helpful to ask them about reimbursement for billing codes 90791 (initial appointment) and 90834 (subsequent appointments), and to clarify coverage for virtual/telehealth services.

  • I ask clients to let me know at least 2 days (48 hours) in advance if they will need to cancel an appointment. If we are able to meet another time during the same week, there will not be a cancellation fee. Clients may cancel up to 5 times in one calendar year without incurring a cancellation fee. In addition, clients have one “freebie” per calendar year to waive the cancellation fee for any reason, at any time. Cancellations due to federal or religious holidays will also not be subject to a fee.

Aside from the exceptions above, missed or late-cancelled appointments will be charged at the full session fee. Please note that this fee may not be eligible for insurance reimbursement or for HSA/FSA coverage. We may discuss possible exceptions for emergencies, financial hardship, or other unforeseen circumstances.
